Editorial:

This issue is out early in order to have it available at the Green Party’s AGM, as detailed below.  Note also the other events, at which I hope to meet some of you!

Details of the two GEI conferences are on the centre pages, here. For the timetable for the London conference, look at www.greeneconomics.org.uk/page157.html

May I repeat my perennial requests from you: for articles, book reviews, snippets of news, cartoons/illustrations – anything relevant to this Group’s purpose; and of course, well-written and articulate! (Preferably submitted by email.)

We intend to return to our normal timing with the next issue, due out in December.

Message from the Convenor of Green Party Economics Working Group

Dear reader,

I hope you have enjoyed the Summer - although the weather has been one of extremes, which does have the French national press at least talking about climate change.

We are hoping that our alternative economics projects will help to start some movements for change in our economics systems to deal with this.

The news is that the polar ice caps are melting three times faster than anticipated!

In this issue we bring you announcements of several events:

Firstly the green party annual conference to be held in Hove September 2006, week of the 22nd September to the 24th September – please check the Green Party website for further details. To vote you need to be a paid up member; please check for details.

At the conference there will be a fringe for the Green Economics Policy Working Group and also one for the Green Economics Institute – both are over lunch, one at p.m. and one at 12 noon; please check the websites for further info: www.greeneconomics.org.uk and the Green party website, www.greenparty.org.uk

There is an exciting Green Economics Institute conference on 7th October 2006 at Caxton House in Archway, London. Please email the institute if you would like to come along; please pre-book so we can guarantee lunch etc. – we can’t do this without pre-booking.

The speaker list is varied and impressive with economists gathering from all over the globe and lots of economics professors, practicing government economists and supply chain specialists. Please find the flyer in this issue.

There is a Green Party Economics Policy Working Group weekend on December 8th in Glastonbury and bookings are currently open – as this is to decide on policy it is open to Green Party Members only – please email asap if you’d like to come along and discuss any aspect of policy; and email to request items for the agenda.

There is also a Green Economics Institute conference discussing green economics and philosophy in Lancaster on November 18th with a superb range of top notch speakers including some leading critical theorists etc., and feminists – please ensure you book early for that too – by emailing me at [email protected]. There is a flyer in this issue too.

We are currently compiling issues 3 and 4 of the International Journal of Green Economics and are being courted by several large publishers – the quality is really exciting with top economics specialists from Cambridge contributing this time as well as economics professors from the US.

We are additionally compiling the green economist which is a newsey non academic magazine on economics – and we are pleased to have topical and practical articles for that – please email me and I will forward to the editorial team for that.

There will also be a young peoples’ green economics conference in January 2006 run by Katherine Kennet in Oxford Town Hall, called the next generation fights back. If you are interested please contact Katherine on [email protected]

Finally there will be a conference in April 2006 2ndth at Oxford University on Green Economics and the call for speakers and papers is now open so do let me know if you’d like to come along – or to give a speech, etc. or send in a paper.
