4:   New magazine – The Land

This winter/spring has seen the launch of a new magazine, The Land, which it is aimed to publish two or three times a year.

It is a replacement for two previous occasional publications covering similar issues: The Land is Ours Newsletter, which has covered land campaigns in the UK and abroad for the past nine years, and Chapter 7 News, which has concentrated on news and views on the UK planning system.

This first issue, of 52 pages, covers a wide range of UK and international issues, in depth. It includes a ‘full length feature’ on the pros and cons of current and potential nano-tech applications to food and farming; an investigation into why so many office blocks lie empty; ‘the Cuba diet’; many reports on planning successes and failures for low-impact and self-build dwellings; the corporate threats to tribal and indigenous people, for example on the coast of Sri Lanka after the tsunami; among many other matters. I recommend it to all concerned with land rights and social justice.

Subscription is ‘£9 or £7 if you are skint’ for three issues (state which you want to start with), to: The Land, The Potato Store, Flaxdrayton Farm, S Petherton, Somerset TA13 5LR.
